Kat chats about Joes Crab Shack Gurnee IL

Kat loves seafood. Great seafood is hard to find in Southeast Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. Joe's Crabshack in Gurnee, IL is an adequate substitute. It is superior to another seafood chain in the same town. But chain restaurants don't offer the best of the best, they just offer reliably mediocre or good food. So, you usually know what your getting. Joe's offers a nice array of seafood items, and a few non-seafood items incase your dining partner doesn't like seafood. It has a fun and festive atomosphere and reasonable prices. Kat gives Joe's 3 meows out of 5. ^..^ ^..^ ^..^

Kat chats about Scott Dogs Lake Villa IL

  • Scott Dogs of Lake Villa isn't your average hot dog stand. It does have the standard American fare you'd expect like burgers, dogs, roast beef sandwiches and philly cheese steaks. It also has the standard European inspired fast food you might expect, like polish sausage, bratwurst, as well as Italian sausage and Italian beef. But...Scott Dogs has another twist on American food, Latino. Despite this twist Scott Dogs is NOT a taco stand, or taqueria, because mexican food doesn't dominate the menu. Scott Dogs is American food through and through. I might even be more specific and say it is "Chicago Style" food. Their two south of the border inspired goods are unique to anything I've seen at a hot dog stand. They have a Milanesa breaded steak sandwich which is very tender and tasty. The milanesa tastes very authentic, yet you choose your toppings. Which means it can be as Americanized as you like. They also serve Argentinean Empanadas. The milanesa and the empanada are excellent choices of Latin inpired food for this type of American restaurant, and they fit right in next to the Greek inspired gyros and the Itialian inspired meatball sandwich. Their menu is extensive with something for everyone, which makes it a great place to take your family, your friends, or your team after a big game. They have 9 different types of hot dogs in addition to the 'build it your way' option for dogs and burgers. They have chicken, ribs, salads, soups, pasta and shakes & floats. The Scott Dog is similar to a Chicago style hot dog and the Scotty's Chopped Salad is excellent and unique. The coffee is smooth and the pop is bubbly. Scott Dogs is the place to go whether you want the basic burger, or something different. Scott Dogs is probably the best hot dog stand in Lake County, IL., and possibly beyond. Keep in mind this isn't fine dining at a 5-star restaurant. But I still give Scott Dogs 3 1/2 meows out of 5. ^..^ ^..^ ^..^ ^.

Kat chats about Binanti's Taste of Italy II Antioch IL

  • Binanti's in Antioch, IL is an Italian American treasure near the Wisconsin/Illinois border. It has simple but elegant Italian inspired dishes that are well done with a great balance of flavors. The service is good. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large. The pasta is cooked al dente and bathed in delicious sauces including a choice of a traditional red sauce or a garlic and oil sauce. There are other options with some specific dishes such as Carbonara and Alfredo. The minstrone was delicious and the bread was hot and fresh. They have daily specials as well as their regular line up of pasta basics such as Linguini, Manicotti and Chicken Parmasan. I have only two criticisms. They do not serve pizza, and they use plastic glassware. They are open 4 p.m. daily. Closed on Tuesdays. Kat gives Binanti's Taste of Italy 4 1/2 meows out of five. ^..^ ^..^ ^..^ ^..^ ^.

Ray has to say about Doyle's Pub & Eatery

I have to say the friday fish dinner here is fantastic. You get 3 large pieces of fish ,hushpuppies and they have potato pancakes. The burgers are 1/2 lb and the ruebens are extremely large and tasty. The place has a pub and then above and around smoke free seating. The chicken wings are amazing. The waitresses are nice and they are friendly there.

Ray has to say about Kilwins Chocolates & Ice Cream

I am changing the theme a little here but valentines is around the corner and just went to Winterfest. Superbowl weekend is also the same weekend as the snow sculpture competition in Lake Geneva WI. Below are some of the works of teams like Alaska ,Minnesota,Wisconsin, and Vermont. The pictures below I thought I would share with you. But back to Kilwins . Everytime I am in Lake Geneva this is a must stop. This place makes fresh candy all day. Last weekend I got candy 5 min after it was finished. The one lady gave me a sample of about a 1/2lb of peanut butter fudge for me and my friends to try. They are always friendly there and everyone is always smiling. The place is just worth stopping to smell it even if you are not going to eat anything. They put your candies in nice candies boxes and they do such things as candied corn flakes, chocolate covered rice krispies and too much other stuff to talk about. During the summer you can not go wrong with their ice cream.
Please if you need to get something fresh and amazing tasting for your sweetheart take the trip to Lake Geneva. You will not regret it.

Ray has to say about Main Street Frozen Custard and Coffee House Antioch IL

The frozen custard is amazing tasting hear and I recommend It. The frozen ice cream chocolate chip cookie was the best I had ever had. It has a good amount of seating and has a neat inside with chairs with art on them painted by area kids. The Coffee is just like Starbucks and they have panini, sandwiches and anything coffee wise you can get at starbucks. I enjoyed the place and would definitely recommend the custard. The custard does come in alot of flavors and you can watch the custard come out of the custard machine so you know its fresh.

Ray has to say about Chicago Pizza Co. Lake Geneva WI

I had been wanting to try their pizza for a long time. I finally got to try it and it was very tasty pizza. The sauce is what really gives it a great taste. The inside of the place is a old bar with the bar still there. I felt they could eliminate the bar and use that for seating area because it was not being used for anything but to hold the register in the middle. Seating is very cramp and very surprised for a tourist trap place like Lake Geneva. I saw a lot more carry out then eating in. If you are in the area I would definitely recommend stopping and getting a pizza but good luck getting a seat.

The Shrimp House Inc. Delavan WI

The Shrimp House is a small shop/restaurant selling gourmet pantry products and kitchen gadgets. It also serves fried shrimp and other limited menu items such as fries, sweet potato fries, hush puppies, haddock and shrimp cocktail. The limited menu is expanding, and there are also daily specials such as angus burgers and various types of fish. You can order fresh fish to cook at home and pick it up the next day. This restaurant does not have the atmosphere of a fine dining establishment. It is more like a small shop in a strip mall. However, the shrimp is so good that I give the Shrimp House a score of 5 out of five. The fried shrimp is just that good. It is the best shrimp I have ever had in the Northern Illinois/Southeastern Wisconsin area. The shrimp is excellent due to a quality product, expert cooking technique and awesome recipe. It is worth the drive even if you don't live in the Walworth County area. I reccomend eating it hot and fresh right on the spot. The fried shrimp tastes best if you eat it there rather than take it to go, (especially if you have a long drive home.) It is so fresh tasting, that it is almost like living on the coast, and eating the shrimp right from the ocean. It is the best fried shrimp that Wisconsin and Illinois land lovers will ever find.
